Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) can be used as a moisturizer, it is extremely hydrating and is great for dry skin. Use EVOO as a moisturizer remedy often to get soft smooth skin on your face and all over. EVOO is also a natural eye makeup remover remedy.
To use EVOO dab some on a cotton ball and rub it in circular motions on your face until you get a slight glisten from the oil. Leave the EVOO on to get the full effects from the hydration. EVOO does not clog pores and can be used as a daily moisturizer. However, it does have a nutty smell to it. If you do not like the smell only apply it at night before bed. Another reason to apply EVOO at night is because it has an overpowering glisten that is not so good for daytime use. Although the hydrating effects of EVOO will keep the skin from drying out preventing the body to overproduce oil to compensate for the dryness it is not a standalone acne remedy. Its hydrating properties do come in handy in a scrub that will exfoliate removing dead skin cells, dirt, and oil.
Make your own EVOO moisturizer scrub for acne.
All you need to make this home acne remedy are three table spoons of EVOO, two tables spoons of organic honey, one half cup of organic sugar, small container with a lid for storage, and spoon (for mixing). Do not use an artificial sweetener like splenda or sweet’n low.
- Pour the EVOO into the small container.
- Pour in the organic honey.
- Pour in the organic sugar.
- Mix with the spoon (or your finger).
- Scoop out a small amount (less than a tablespoon) with your finger tips.
- Apply the moisturizer scrub to your face being very gentle rubbing in circular motions.
- Avoid sensitive areas like the eyes and eye brows.
- Keep a half inch away from the mouth.
- Exfoliate for about sixty seconds.
- Rinse and pat dry with a soft clean towel.
Store the moisturizer scrub (in a container with a lid) in a dark pantry and it will keep for about thirty days. Storing it in a refrigerator will make it go bad quicker because of the EVOO.
The moisturizer scrub will keep your skin hydrated, but not if you use it daily. Only use the EVOO moisturizer scrub to exfoliate once a week if you have sensitive or dry skin. If you have oily skin use it twice a week (every three to four days). Exfoliating your skin everyday will dry it out and likely cause irritation. Having over dry skin will cause your body to produce more acne causing oil.
Do not substitute olive oil for EVOO. Use only EVOO as a moisturizer remedy or in the moisturizer scrub. You will get the best results from organic, but you don’t have to use it. Use regular honey and granulated sugar to make this face scrub if you don’t have organic.
Add a few uncoated aspirin or a packet of BC powdered aspirin to the moisturizer scrub or just plain EVOO. Aspirin contains salicylic acid and will help by removing more dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. The hydradting effects of just plain EVOO will help to counter the drying effects salicylic acid has on the skin.
EVOO is not an acne scar remedy. A natural acne remedy that moisturizes and also fades acne scars is vitamin E oil.
Coconut is one of the best treatments I’ve found for acne. Raw apple cider vinegar application is a cheap, alternative acne treatment that has worked for many adults, teens and children with acne, zits, pimples, or blemishes.
